The Program for Education Development of Equatorial Guinea (PRODEGE) of the Ministry of Education, Science and Sports is a national effort to modernize the country’s primary education system. Its main components include: teacher development, active schools, and institutional strengthening. PRODEGE will train the country’s 2,400 primary school teachers, create 40 model schools, start a national reading program, and transform traditional classrooms into exciting, interactive learning environments with the use of state-of-the-art active learning instructional methods and materials. Among the program's ultimate goals: increase the number of students graduating from sixth grade, involve parents in schools, and equip children to participate in the nation’s continued progress. PRODEGE is the result of a private-public partnership funded by the Government of Equatorial Guinea and the Hess Corporation.

The 20-minute video showcases the Program for Education Development of Equatorial Guinea (PRODEGE), a five-year public-private partnership funded by the Government of Equatorial Guinea and Hess Corporation and implemented by AED. The video gives an overview of the main components and achievements of the national scale primary education Program from the perspective of various nationals involved with PRODEGE.

Newsletter 24: Facilitator-monitors of the Practicum finish their Training

On December 17, a graduation ceremony for the facilitators of the updated Practicum will be held. A total of 18 individuals will graduate with the knowledge, skills and attitudes needed to bring active practices to the classroom. Over the course of 16 months and 930 hours, the training has prepared participants to facilitate the Practicum’s debut with first year students in both tracks of the EUFP Teachers College: the Diploma for Teachers of Primary Education and the University Diploma.

This year, first grade teachers in Equatorial Guinea spent the break between the 2009-2010 and 2010-2011 school years participating in a continuing professional development opportunity entitled, “Summer Course 2010.”The training course consisted was designed for all first-grade teachers in the country, as well as school directors on innovative strategies for first grade learning.
